Initially, the Bonneville Hills neighborhood was considered part of the Each Bench Community until 1985, when it was recognized as an official neighborhood. The origins of the community have much to do with the development of the Foothill Village Shopping Center.
When developers Johansen-Thackery & Company Inc. announced plans to redevelop the small shopping center into a large mall, East Bench Community Council members who opposed the expansion broke off to form their own opposition group, which became known as the Bonneville Hills Community Council. Due to the opposition, the developers eventually agreed to donate one acre of land to create a community park and limit mall access on the neighborhood side.
Today, Bonneville Hills is still a calm, residential area and one of the best Salt Lake City neighborhoods for students and families. It’s also one of the richest neighborhoods in Salt Lake City and features some of its most desirable real estate.
