Where Is Rose Park, Salt Lake City?
Rose Park is a popular neighborhood in northwest Salt Lake City east of Redwood Road, north of 600 North, and west of I-15. It’s less than five miles from Downtown Salt Lake City. It’s about 8 miles from Rose Park, Salt Lake City to Bountiful, Utah, to the north.
The boundaries extend beyond the city limits to the north and the Salt Lake – Davis county line. There are four original stone markers on the major streets of the neighborhood that mark the original boundaries. I-215, the Westpointe neighborhood, and the Salt Lake City International Airport are located to the west. North Salt Lake is to the north. Rose Park is also bordered by the neighborhoods of Capitol Hill to the east and Fairpark to the south.
While the boundaries are smaller, it’s often thought of as the urban area to the north and west of I-15 and I-80. This means Rose Park is often confused with other nearby communities like Glendale and Fairpark.

Rose Park History & Overview
Rose Park was developed in the 1940s and 1950s as an affordable subdivision for families with larger home plots than older neighborhoods. The brick homes were built with GI’s returning from World War II in mind.
Alan E. Brockbank, the area’s original developer, designed the streets to follow the shape of a long-stemmed rose. American Beauty Drive would form the long rose stem. The streets were named for varieties of roses and homes originally had green and red shingle roofs.
As the area increased in population, it became more diverse. Today, Rose Park is one of the most ethnically diverse areas of Salt Lake Valley. There are nearly 11,000 people living in Rose Park. While the city is 65% white and 21% Hispanic, the Rose Park neighborhood has a population that’s 45% white, 43% Hispanic, 5% Asian, 3% Black or African American, and 4% two or more races.
Thanks to its affordability and proximity to downtown, Rose Park has seen an influx of young, upper-middle class people moving to the area. It’s long been a blue collar neighborhood, but it’s now becoming popular with young professionals looking for a very short commute.

Rose Park Neighborhood Schools
While living in Rose Park, Salt Lake City, families are served by the Salt Lake City School District. There are four elementary schools in the neighborhood: Newman, Backman, Escalante, and Rose Park Elementary.
The Salt Lake Center for Science Education charter school has a STEM focus with partnered lab work through U of U, a Bike Shop, science field work, and outdoor and experimental learning. Another charter school, the Guadalupe School, is located in Rose Park.
The entire neighborhood falls within the boundaries for West High School, one of the largest and oldest high schools in Utah.

The Rose Park neighborhood is a safe place to live in Salt Lake City with only 5% more crime than the Salt Lake City average. Rose Park is slowly overcoming a bad reputation for crime, in part because it’s often confused with Poplar Grove, Glendale, and Westpointe. These west side neighborhoods are among the most dangerous in Salt Lake. Neighboring Westpointe has 64% more crime than the city average.
