One reason why this country is so great is that we have the ability to easily pick up and move into a completely different part of the country, no papers or permits needed. You can also learn a lot about the current narrative of people within the country by taking a look at where people are moving out of, and where they are moving into. United Van Lines Study
One of the best reports that is annually done on interstate migration in America is actually done by another moving company: United Van Lines. United Van Lines’ National Movers Study measures the amount of people moving inbound and outbound of every state, every year. According to the 2017 version of the study, here are the three most popular states that people are moving into, when you measure inbound vs outbound migration.
- Vermont: Vermont is a gorgeous state that is very underpopulated. The New England state, with its beautiful green forests and hills, only has a population of 625,000. However, people are starting to take note of this forgotten state. In 2017, an astonishing 68% of Vermont’s interstate moves were inbound.
- Oregon: The northwestern portion of the country was consistently represented among the top states in the National Movers Study. Oregon was the shining example of this, as more and more people are moving to the state’s beautiful coastline, or the rapidly growing city of Portland. In 2017, 65% of the state’s interstate migration was inbound.
- Idaho: Idaho benefits from similar things that the rest of the northwestern part of the country, but it gets an added boost for the quickly growing economy. Many young professionals are ending up in the state as more businesses move into Boise and the surrounding areas. In 2017, 63% of Idaho’s interstate migration was inbound.
