8 Moving Hacks to Make Your Life Easier

No matter how excited you are to move, it can be a stressful ordeal. Packing up your entire life, even just to move across town, can make anyone want to pull all of their hair out. If you have the opportunity to make your move just a little bit easier, you should snatch it up. Easier is better. Here are a few of our favorite moving hacks that will make not only your move easier, but also your first few days in your new home just a bit easier, too.

Pack the items you’ll need first in a clear plastic bin

Things like paper towels, box cutter, trash bags, eating utensils, phone chargers, the wifi router, power strips, etc. should be in this bin!

Wrap breakable items in clothes instead of bubble wrap

Bubble wrap is expensive, and this way you can save a little bit of space!

Label boxes with the room they should be put in

This makes it easier for you as you unpack, but it also makes it easier for your movers to move the boxes to where you’ll want them anyway.

Cover the tops of open toiletries with saran wrap

No one wants to have to buy all new soaps, laundry detergent, and shampoo after they move. But you also don’t want to spill these sticky substances all over everything else you’re moving. Wrap the top of these bottles with saran wrap, and secure with a rubber band. No spills!

Pack your plates vertically

Think of it like records. If they’re vertical, your plates are less likely to break. And they’re easier to unpack this way, too.

Use saran wrap to move dresser drawers

You know when you’re trying to move a dresser, and the empty drawers keep sliding out and hitting you as you try loading it off and on the truck? Remove the drawers, but keep all of the contents in them. Wrap the drawers in saran wrap to keep all the contents in the drawers, and move them like this. It makes the move easier, and it’s less to unpack when you get there.

Use press n’seal for jewelry displays

You now that jewelry hanger that will take you hours to hang everything back up after you move? Not to mention everything will get tangled. Leave it all hanging up, and wrap the whole thing with press n’seal.

Take a photo of how the wires are hooked up to electronics

This saves a lot of time when you’re trying to re-set up your tv.
